"Aqua di Lucca"Perfumes of Lucca. The city of Lucca was built in an unspecified age. The place name Lucca derives from the Celtic - Ligurian term “Luk” which means “swampy ground and defines perfectly the marshy characteristics of the border area between the Ligurian and Etruscan lands where the city rose. In the Longobard Age around 570 A.D. the economy of the city flourished and it is through classical sources (public notary and government acts) that today we know about Lucca’s economical development; the commerce of silk, wool, gold, silver, firs, leather and perfume scents. Because of the unpleasant smell from the leather and fur tanning these work-shops were placed in a specific area of the city which today is still called “La Cuoiara”. Since it is normally assumed that the commerce of silk implies considerable amounts of money and the presence of strong Companies able to export the finished products, we can suppose that the period around the year 1000 A.D. corresponded to a Golden Age for Lucca. The ancient “formulas” for the production of perfumes and scents are of this period, inevitable in a rich society like that of Lucca of this age and revisited by us today respecting the traditions on the one hand and the present hygine norms on the other so as to offer to our customers “Aqua di Lucca”. “Aqua di Lucca” is an “ eau-de-cologne” without alcohol, therefore adeguate even for those who are allergic. In addition to its pleasant perfume of ancient oriental essences it olso re-establishes natural skin moinsture. |
